Description
The emperor has declared that pavilions shall be constructed among the lanterns floating on the lake for this year's festival. Place pavilions to earn gifts from the emperor, and redeem those gifts for powerful actions to make this the best harvest festival yet! In this expansion, designed by Jason D. Kingsley, players have a small supply of pavilions. When you place a tile, you may choose to build a pavilion on that tile. When you make a color match on a pavilion, you earn a gift from the emperor, a new currency that can be redeemed on new actions defined by emperor cards. Each game, two Emperor cards are revealed from a small deck. Each turn, each player can redeem two gifts to activate one card and perform the special action associated with it: make an extra dedication at the end of your turn, convert favor tokens into victory points, etc. These actions increase the variety and the puzzliness of the base game. Most of our games end with very close scores. Keeps everyone invested till the end.
Instructions were clear, didn’t have to google anything. That’s rare these days.
My wife and I have added this to our at-home date night rotation. Way better than scrolling phones.
It’s one of those games that feels calm but you’re constantly thinking. Hard to explain but we love it.
Different tile layouts every time keep it fresh. Doesn’t feel repetitive.
We played with adults and a 10 yr old and it worked fine. Rules aren’t too heavy.
You really have to watch what colors you’re giving other players. Makes every move matter.
If you’re trying to get into more strategy board games, this is a good starting point. Not overwhelming.
This has been our most played game this summer. Even grandma enjoyed it.
Don’t let the calm look fool you. My brother got salty when I grabbed the last dedication tile.
Brought this to a small get together and everyone learned in like 10 mins.
The theme is relaxing. We actually play this when we want something chill but still engaging.
Game lasts about 30-45 mins for us. Not too short, not dragging on.
Setup is simple and cleanup doesn’t take forever, which I appreciate on busy weeknights.
Tiles are sturdy and colors are vibrant. Feels like a well made game.
Tile draw adds some luck but smart placement really matters. Keeps it fair.
Works well for our family of four. No one felt left out or overwhelmed.
We usually play loud party games, so this was a nice slower pace. Still engaging though.
It feels peaceful placing tiles, but the competition for those dedication tokens gets intense.
My 9 and 11 yr olds understood the rules after one round. They even started blocking each other strategically lol.
Not overly complicated, but you still have to plan ahead. Good balance for family game night.
We mostly play as a couple and it works really well with just two. Quick but satisfying.
The lantern tiles are gorgeous laid out on the table. My wife commented on how pretty it looks before we even started.
Picked this up on a whim and wow, there’s more depth here than I expected. Easy to learn but takes real thinking to win.
